~ Update: October 17, 2025

I had emailed the East Alton Police Department to request Gracie’s pictures, but they did not have any.

Gracie’s mom, Ms. A., then kindly provided me with her furbaby’s pictures.

Ms. A. tells me that Gracie, who was 9 years old when she was killed by GREER, “was like a child” to her a very good friend.

Ms. A. further said that is the reason why GREER locked Gracie “in the room to die to further hurt me.”

Police tell me that GREER called Gracie an “old mean cat.”

On October 14, 2025, 30-year-old LARRY DELYNN GREER Jr. (pictured), of Alton, appeared in Madison County Circuit Court and was sentenced after pleading guilty to setting his ex-wife's house on fire causing the death of an innocent cat, named Gracie.

Madison County State's Attorney Thomas A. Haine said in a press release that the incident took place on June 29, 2025, when GREER set fire to his ex-wife’s house in the 100 block of Northmoor Place in East Alton. The woman was not home at the time.

GREER was sentenced to ten years in prison for charges of aggravated animal cruelty, arson, and domestic battery. “The sentences are to be served concurrently,” stated the press release.

GREER also pleaded guilty to choking a family or household member on September 14, 2024, in Alton.

~ Update: October 21, 2025

Voice For Us is in receipt of the Affidavit Complaint provided by the Bath Town and Village Court.

The affidavit identified the furvictim as a 1.5-year-old named Mandy whose pictures have been added to the gallery below.

~ Original story:

The Village of Bath Police Department arrested 45-year-old DARLA B. MARTIN and 70-year-old DANIEL J. GARTLAND (both pictured).

The arrest stems from an investigation that was launched back on September 28, 2025, when officers responded to a home on West Morris Street. At the home, officers found a female Golden retriever who “appeared in need of medical care”, said the police in a press release.

According to the release, MARTIN and GARTLAND were made aware that they were required to take the dog to the vet under the New York State Agriculture and Market Laws.

Less than a week later, on October 3, 2025, officers returned to the home to conduct a follow up check on the dog and noticed that the furvictim “had suffered a deep laceration to the neck and had not been provided any veterinary care.”

Officers then removed the dog “under exigent circumstances” and turned her over to the SPCA for emergency veterinary care.

A seizure order was later applied for and granted through Bath Village Court.

A medical examination revealed that the dog had suffered “a severe progressive skin lesion around the neck” which was later determined to be caused by a rope being tied tightly around the dog’s neck to the extent that it caused the deep cut.

MARTIN and GARTLAND were finally arrested on October 13, 2025, and charged with failure to provide proper sustenance.

MARTIN and GARTLAND were released on appearance tickets, due in Bath Village Court at a later date, as the charges do not qualify for bail.

As stated in the press release, “....the dog is recovering well under the care of a rescue.”

The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 70-year-old MICHAEL PATRICK OHERN (pictured).

The arrest is the result of a joint investigation by Animal Control and LCSO Detectives.

The sheriff's office along with Animal Control, and Cheyenne Compliance Department Code Enforcement, executed a search warrant at OHERN’s property in the 200 block of H Bar E Drive, east of U.S. Highway 85 and south of Chalk Bluff Road south of Cheyenne.

According to the press release by the sheriff's office, over one hundred animals were removed from the property, including twenty-two who were sadly deceased.

Detectives found birds, chickens, dogs, goats, rabbits, tortoises, and turtles. The sheriff’s office said many of the animals were “injured, sick, and severely neglected.”

OHERN was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on twenty-two felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. At the time of writing, records show that OHERN is still in custody.

All of the poor souls were taken to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter (CAS) and its Director of Development, Niki Harrison, said: “Our team is heartbroken, but we’re ready to help. These animals have endured unimaginable suffering, and they deserve a chance at safety, healing, and love.”

Staff are working around the clock “to provide medical treatment, food, and safe shelter” said CAS in a Facebook post.

Early estimates suggest that the cost of care for these animals could reach $150,000. If you can afford and wish to help out, please click here. Thank you!
