The man in the pictures is Robert Yoshioka.

He is an officer with the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) and president of Chibi’s Furiends, a nonprofit based in Jefferson.

Officer Yoshioka spends a lot of time out in the community, but even when he’s off duty his love for animals keeps him busy in the streets.

Officer Yoshioka has five dogs and to help dogs in need is a heartfelt cause for him.

He said: “There are so many dogs out there…they need help.”

Chibi’s Furiends’ mission is to save dogs from high-kill shelters in Southern Indiana as well as Kentucky and find a furever home for them, not just locally, but also in northern states with strict laws against animal cruelty.

The animal rescue collaborates with other groups like Pet Finder, Shelter Love, and Pet Smart Charities to spread the word about the homeless furbabies.

Chibi’s Furiends make sure the dogs get their vaccination and are microchipped.

The shelter also provides food, crates, and toys to anyone who volunteers to foster a dog.

The good news is that last year more than 60 dogs were adopted through Chibi’s Furiends.

Officer Yoshioka said: “It’s helpful. People really appreciate when they have a pet, so it’s a good feeling. Dogs can’t help themselves, so I do like helping.”

This year’s goal is to find furever homes for 100 homeless dogs, so if you wish to help or learn more about the shelter’s mission, you can visit their website.

Thank you, Officer Yoshioka for helping the helpless!

The 12-year-old Bulldog in the pictures below is Tuff.

He was rescued by the South Milwaukee Fire Department (SMFD) on Friday morning, January 31, after he fell through the ice and into the frigid waters of Lake Michigan.

Reportedly, the poor furbaby ended up on the ice because he was trying to retrieve a stick and was submerged for 10 long minutes or even longer.

SMFD, who ironically trained in the very same area just on Wednesday, were called in.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the incident happened in the channel between the Grant Park beach and South Milwaukee Yacht Club, 101 Marshall Avenue.

Lt. Kurt Egner of the South Milwaukee Fire Department said that prior to their arrival bystanders tried to throw a rope to Tuff but were unsuccessful.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel also reports that a member of the fire department donned a cold-water rescue suit, hooked a rope to himself and went after Tuff.

The furbaby was then transported to a local veterinarian and thankfully is expected to make a full recovery!

Many thanks to our Angels on Earth with uniforms who risk their own lives daily to save animals and people!

- Brindisi, Apulia region, Italy -

On Monday, January 27, a female monk seal pup of about four months was spotted on a beach in Torre San Gennaro.

A passerby noticed the baby seal not far from the Enel power plant in Cerano.

Local law enforcement, local health agencies, experts from Genova Aquarium, and ISPRA (The Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) also responded to the scene.

The pup was rescued by experts.

She was injured, lethargic, emaciated, anemic, and with evident breathing difficulties.

A private citizen made his home available for the vets to treat and monitor the baby seal.

Vets hoped for her condition to improve despite the fact that she had been breathing heavily all night long.

Sadly, the baby did not make it.

ISPRA announced that the seal pup passed away on Tuesday, January 28.

Necropsy investigations will soon be carried out at the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute.

The body will be analyzed avoiding damage to the skeleton and fur, to allow the carcass to be displayed for educational and scientific purposes.

The monk seal is a highly endangered and a protected species in the Mediterranean.

Italian law prohibits their killing, capture, and disturbance.

ISPRA said that there are only a few hundred left.
