It’s heartbreaking for a mother to be separated from her babies and some loggers did just that, they split a family.

With their cutting equipment, they damaged the den of a mother bear causing her to flee and leave her three babies behind, two males and a female.

We have seen this ‘forced separation’ happening with seals when the mothers are disturbed and scared by humans so they flee, leaving their little ones behind. It’s just gutwrenching.

The lumberjacks left the litter in the damaged den for two days hoping the mom would come back but sadly she did not.

Staff with the Rescue Center for Orphaned Bear Cubs drove 1,600 miles from Tver to Kirov to go and rescue these babies.

They were given special permission to evade COVID-19 lockdown rules for the trip.

They took food supplies and sleeping bags because hotels were closed due to the lockdown.

They named the bear cubs, Lala (girl), Mirny and Lyokha the boys.

The rescuers are keeping human contact to a minimum as the bears will be returned to the wild after being raised in the orphanage.

Candy bar Snickers decided to end its sponsorship of Sea World.

The decision came after talking with the animal rights group PETA.

In thanks, PETA sent the candy connoisseur a box of delicious vegan chocolate whales.

PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said: “Snickers made a sweet decision by cutting ties with an amusement park that keeps marine mammals in tiny concrete cells, where they go crazy, deprived of everything that’s natural and important to them.”

Adding: “No decent person or reputable company should support SeaWorld’s animal exploitation, and PETA is calling for the animals’ release to seaside sanctuaries.”

Snickers joins a long list of brands—including Mott’s, Hyundai Motor America, Panama Jack, and Thomas Cook as well as Air Canada, WestJet, JetBlue, and Southwest airlines—that have cut ties with SeaWorld.

In October, travel platform TripAdvisor ceased its ticket sales to SeaWorld and, PETA is calling upon the American Automobile Association (AAA) to do the same.

VegNews reports that: “ A veterinary report released this year shows that animals held captive at SeaWorld suffer severe stress, disease, and injuries which leads to early deaths.”

In Canada, the Whale Sanctuary Project is in the process of building a whale sanctuary off the coast of Nova Scotia with the hope of rescuing whales from the entertainment industry by 2021.

- Turkey -

While residents worldwide stay at home to contain the spread of COVID-19, stray cats and dogs roam the streets looking for food and someone to show them love and compassion.

It is heartbreaking.

As many of you know, strays are one of my personal weaknesses.

On Sunday, April 5, the Interior Ministry issued a circular letter regarding the protection and feeding of stray animals.

The ministry also said shelters and dens for the animals should be disinfected.

Minister of the Interior Süleyman Soylu, ordered food and water to be left at various living environments of street animals; such as parks and gardens, and animal shelters.

Before Sunday’s ordinance Turkish citizens took to social media to speak of their horror at the thought of strays starving during this pandemic.

The New Arab published concerns from Twitter users:

· Twitter user Ozge Ozan wrote: “There are lots of cats on the side streets where there are only closed businesses. I haven’t seen food anywhere for days. The cats are running after us (looking for food). “Ozan called on Istanbul’s central Beyoglu municipality to give food to the stray cats.

· Twitter user Ebru Dogan wrote: “Dogs are especially hungry and aggressive because people can’t go out and feed them. We are feeding the cats in front of our door but we are waiting for the support of municipal teams to feed the dogs.”

· Another Twitter user wrote to Istanbul's Kadikoy municipality: "Take the cats and dogs to a shelter. We are not able to feed them all. The animals are hungry and thirsty. Nobody can go out and feed them. These are not our duties!!"

· In the southern province of Antalya, a 63-year-old retiree who has been confined to her home due to chronic illnesses called for the government to establish an emergency hotline to assist in feeding stray cats.

Daily Sabah reports that: “Stray animals in Turkey are vaccinated by local municipalities' veterinarians and are also regularly fed. Caring for needy animals is a part of the culture in Turkish society, and many citizens also contribute to looking after stray dogs and cats in their neighborhoods.”
