On Friday, February 11, the Petersburg Police Department arrested 62-years-old WILLIE EARL CAPEHART (pictured below) for attacking a defenseless puppy while babysitting two children.
According to police, CAPEHART was in a St. Petersburg home babysitting the children and their legal guardian’s puppy.
At some point the kids heard yelling, a “loud bang,” and the sound of the front door being slammed.
When the children went into the living room, they found the 14-year-old puppy who had been thrown into the corner of the room and blood on the wall.
According to the affidavit the furbaby was throwing up, having accidents, and was unable to move.
The puppy was rushed to an emergency veterinarian who said the dog suffered severe head trauma and would be permanently blind.
Police said CAPEHART was under the influence during the incident and left the children alone afterward.
Online arrest records maintained by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office show that CAPEHART was arrested on February 11, on one felony count of cruelty to animals and two felony counts of neglect of a child.
He was released on February 14, on surety bond.
Online records also show that CAPEHART has previous criminal records.
