UPDATE: WILLIAM STROEMEL pleaded guilty to animal cruelty after fatally shooting therapy dog in 2019
- New Jersey, Maple Shade, USA -
On Wednesday, April 27, 64-year-old WILLIAM STROEMEL III A.K.A. Wild Willie (pictured below), pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and one count of weapon possession.
On September 17, 2019, STROEMEL used an air rifle to shoot a neighbor’s therapy dog, a 9-year-old Pomeranian Poodle mix named Toby.
Toby was euthanized the following day.
STROEMEL was charged with animal cruelty, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
On September 23, while a search warrant was being executed on STROEMEL’s home, police found a .22 caliber pistol, and he was charged with weapons offenses.
On September 25, following a necropsy performed on Toby, more charges were filed against the accused.
The pellet removed from Toby’s head was determined to have come from an air rifle in possession of the shooter when the furbaby was shot.
After STROEMEL cowardly and cruelly shot Toby, he gave the gun to an acquaintance and asked them to hold it for him.
WILLIAM STROEMEL III will be back in court on July 29, 2020, for sentencing.
Burlington County prosecutors recommended that he receives a five-year state prison term!
In the last picture, sweet Toby is with his daddy, Robert Cook, a Vietnam War veteran.
