TRAVIS MERVIN MITZEL sentenced to probation for brutally attacking his mother’s miniature Dachshund

- Pennsylvania, USA -

On Thursday, April 28, in the York County Court of Common Pleas 30-years-old TRAVIS MERVIN MITZEL (pictured) pleaded guilty to cruelty to animals for a sentence of two years of probation.

The York County District Attorney’s Office dropped a charge of aggravated cruelty to animals.

Judge Gregory M. Snyder accepted the plea agreement after MITZEL agreed to not own or have any contact with animals while he's on probation.

Judge Snyder said: “We do the same for human victims. Why would we not do that for animals?

On February 27, 2021, Northern York County Regional police responded to a home in the 300 block of Butter Road near Daugherty Road in Conewago Township after MITZEL’s mother reported her son for animal cruelty.

The woman said her 10-pound miniature Dachshund was “acting odd and that it may be hurt” because he/she wasn't breathing right.

The furbaby had multiple broken ribs, blood around his/her heart, and a collapsed lung.

Thankfully, the furbaby survived the brutal attack and was treated for the injuries he/she sustained.

Court documents do not mention the VOICELESS VICTIM’s gender, age, and name.

The woman told police that when she left the home the furbaby was fine and that her son was home with the dog all day.

When police questioned MITZEL, he denied hurting the dog and said he did not know how the pooch got injured. He later stated that he believes that someone could have come into the home and beat the dog.

Northern York County Regional Police said MITZEL had threatened his mother “in the past about hurting and killing this specific dog” and “made it clear that he does not like this dog because it barks and growls at him.”

MITZEL’s mother told police her son had been charged with animal cruelty in another state.

MITZEL was arrested and arraigned on February 28, 2021, before District Judge Keith L. Albright and then walked free on a $20,000 bond.
