Aboriginal leaders in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) lands have given the order to shoot 10,000 innocent camels to prevent them from drinking too much water across the APY Lands SA.
The killing of these beautiful animals will be executed by professional firearms experts from helicopters on Wednesday, January 8, and will go on for five days.
The APY Lands - Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara have posted on their Facebook page the “Urgent and Importance Notice”: “There will be a Feral Animal Kill across the APY Lands SA.”
The notice states, among other things, that groups of camels and other Feral animals …” are putting pressure on the remote Aboriginal communities in the APY Lands and the pastoral operations as the camels search for water; Coupled with Dry conditions, Animal welfare issues, Threats to communities, Scarce water, Health & Environmental impacts; destroying the country and eating all Anagu food supplies;”
