Theresa Thomas files lawsuit against two Detroit police officers for killing one of her dogs

- Detroit, Michigan, USA -

On Monday, September 16, Detroit resident Ms. Theresa Thomas filed a lawsuit against two Detroit police officers in U.S. District Court.

The suit follows an incident which took place on July 19 and resulted in one of Ms. Thomas’ dogs being killed.

Two unidentified officers went to Ms. Thomas’ home on 2425 Beal Street seeking a suspect whom they believed was there.

According to the lawsuit, Ms. Thomas explained to the officers that no one was there other than her son and her two dogs.

One of the officers said he knew that the suspect was there and that he was going to search the house.

Ms. Thomas said they were not permitted to enter without a search warrant and closed the door.

The officer grabbed the door and yanked it open while Ms. Thomas was holding the door shut.

Ms. Thomas was pulled out of her house and her two furbabies, Tiny and Winter, went out the front door.

One of the officers shot both dogs and as Ms. Thomas tried to help her injured babies, the other officer laughed.

Point 33 of the lawsuit states: ” Defendant Doe # 2’s seizure was unreasonable because the dogs did not present a threat of imminent harm to Defendant.”

The nonprofit organization ‘Detroit Pit Crew’ responded to the scene to pick up the dogs and took them to a veterinarian.

Tiny suffered a bullet which moved near his spine, and sadly later passed away.

Winter suffered a gunshot to her muzzle but survived.

The suspect police were looking for was never found!

The attorney representing Ms. Thomas, Chris Olson, said: “Our city has a problem.”
