Suspect involved in the abandonment of eighteen rabbits identified and faces animal cruelty charges

- Colorado, USA -

On May 30, 2025, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office took to social media after eighteen rabbits were found abandoned in cages by a dumpster at 15730 W 6th Avenue Frontage Road in Golden.

Deputies, who made the discovery on May 10, 2025, said the eighteen rabbits included “two litters of babies (6 juveniles, 7 younger babies with their mom), a few adult females, and one adult male”.

The sheriff’s office asked: “Who’s the Harebrained Culprit?

Well, according to an update posted on Facebook, the sheriff’s office was able “to quickly identify the suspect behind the rabbit abandonment.”

Deputies said the community’s tips helped track down the suspect.

The post read: “Rabbit Justice: Delivered!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone in our community who shared tips, info, and posts. Because of your quick action and support, we were able to quickly identify the suspect behind the rabbit abandonment. He faces 18 misdemeanor charges of Animal Cruelty.

With justice served, there are still some bunnies ready to go to new homes. If you’re ready to adopt, 4–5 bunnies are available at the Foothills Animal Shelter.

We couldn’t have done this without you. Thanks for keeping an eye out and making a difference.”

The identity of the suspect was not revealed.
