The Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 47-year-old SHYANNA MARIE BORDELON, her son 26-year-old MURRAY JOSEPH GROS IV, and Glenmora Police officer 33-year-old STEVEN MATTHEW WARE (all pictured).
According to the press release by the RPSO, on May 25, 2025, deputies received a complaint regarding an appalling incident which took place at a home in Glenmora on May 21, 2025, and that “had possibly been mishandled by the Glenmora Police Department.”
The Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division then stepped in for further investigation.
BORDELON had been asked to watch a neighbor's two dogs while the neighbor was away “for an unknown amount of time”, stated the release.
While BORDELON agreed at first, she later decided to no longer care for the dogs, so she and GROS reached out to Glenmora Animal Control to turn the dogs over. As stated in the press release, Animal Control refused to take in the dogs because “… there was no reason to do so as she had admittedly been given the responsibility of care and the dogs did not belong to Bordelon.”
At that point, BORDELON and GROS contacted the Glenmora Police Department and WARE responded to the call. According to the sheriff’s office, WARE said they could shoot the dogs. The mother and son told WARE they did not have a gun.
WARE returned to the Glenmora Police Department where he retrieved a personal rifle and handed it to GROS. GROS shot and killed the defenseless dogs and then buried them. GROS then gave the rifle back to WARE.
The investigation conducted by the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division resulted in the arrest of BORDELON, GROS, and WARE.
GROS and WARE were taken into custody on June 3, 2025, and BORDELON was arrested the following day. They were all booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.
WARE was released after posting a $12,500 bond while BORDELON and GROS are being held on a $7,500 bond.
BORDELON and GROS were each charged with two felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and one count of criminal conspiracy.
WARE was charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, one count of criminal conspiracy, one count of obstruction of justice, and one count of malfeasance in office.
The investigation is ongoing.
