SHEHERYAR KAMRAN faces federal charges for killing hamsters and posting videos on social media

20-years-old SHEHERYAR KAMRAN, of Reston, was indicted on three federal charges related to animal cruelty for making and posting videos on social media showing him abusing and murdering hamsters.
On February 24, 2022, KAMRAN pleaded not guilty in a federal court in Alexandria and is now waiting for the trial scheduled to begin on May 16, 2022.
Part of the indictment, which was published by FOX 5 stated:
· In or about the fall of 2021, KAMRAN purchased hamsters from a pet supply store in Sterling, Virginia, for the purpose of making videos showing him torturing and killing them.
· Between in or about September 2021, and November 18, 2021, KAMRAN tortured and killed the hamsters that he bought from the pet supply store in Sterling, Virginia, in the course of making videos to post on Tik-Tok, Instagram, and YouTube.
KAMRAN named his YouTube account “Killing hamsters click my profile”.
KAMRAN was arrested on November 18, 2021, on ten MISDEMEANOR charges for animal cruelty under Virginia state criminal laws.
As reported by FOX 5, a team of internet sleuths from across the country and the United Kingdom helped gather evidence on KAMRAN’s online activities.
Emily Dollens, a resident of Washington state, worked with the internet sleuths and once she identified KAMRAN’s location, she reached out to Fairfax County Police
Virginia state prosecutors have declined to prosecute KAMRAN’s case for now.
FOX 5 reports that the state charges were dismissed “without prejudice” meaning the prosecutors could resume prosecution depending on how the federal case proceeds.
FOX 5 reached out to Instagram and KAMRAN’s attorneys for comment.
Instagram has not gotten back.
KAMRAN’s lawyers declined to comment.
