S. PATRICK CANNEDY arrested for shooting his neighbors’ dog with a compound bow

Following an investigation conducted by the Menard County Sheriff’s Office, Menard County Animal Control, and the Menard County State’s Attorney’s Office, deputies arrested 41-years-old S. PATRICK CANNEDY (pictured below) on an animal cruelty charge.
On February 21, Menard County Animal Control was called to a property in the 13000 block of Deer Path Lane in rural Athens about a dog who had been shot with a compound bow.
Animal Control Officers alerted the sheriff’s office.
Officials learned that CANNEDY had shot his neighbors’ dog who was on his property at the time of the incident.
The VOICELESS VICTIM was taken to a local veterinary clinic to treat the injuries sustained from the arrow.
Ms. Beth Butler has set up a GoFundMe to cover the vet bills for the furbaby. Ms. Butler’s parents are the dog’s guardians. The dog is a female Collie named Carly.
Ms. Butler said that Carly “was shot straight through the chest near her throat and was bleeding profusely when her owner finally got her to come back inside.”
She also said that: “The neighbor alerted animal control that he was shooting to kill her as she had been trespassing on his property.”
Carly “had to have surgery and stitches through Athens Main Street Clinic and will be in recovery for several months following”, explained Ms. Butler.
On Wednesday, March 16, deputies arrested CANNEDY and charged him with aggravated cruelty to an animal, a Class 4 Felony.
He was transported to the Menard County Jail.
News Channel 20 reports that if convicted, CANNEDY “faces a possible fine of up to $25,000, probation of up to 30 months, 1 to 3 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, and one year of parole.”
Additionally, if convicted, CANNEDY would be required to undergo a psychological or psychiatric evaluation as well as treatment.
I searched for CANNEDY’s arrest records but the Menard County Jail does not have any listings for him.
