ROBERT WAYNE CALLAHAN gets jail time for leaving his dog tied to a tree

- Florida, USA -

On August 5, 41-years-old ROBERT WAYNE CALLAHAN (pictured below) was sentenced to serve only 180 days in Lee County Jail after he tied his dog, Charlie, to a tree causing him severe injury.

After his release, CALLAHAN will be on probation for only 48 months and he has been banned from possessing or owning any animals (the period of the ban was not disclosed by the sources I consulted).

~ Original story:

Back on October 9, 2020, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that on October 7, a complaint came in about a dog with a rope embedded in his neck.

Detectives responded to a property on the 800 block of Andalusia Boulevard in Cape Coral, located CALLAHAN, and learned that he did not have a proper collar for Charlie, so he used a rope to tether him in the backyard.

Inevitably, the rope caused a severe, gaping wound to the entire width of Charlie’s neck.

The furbaby was taken to a local animal hospital where he underwent surgery to close the large wound on his neck. A physical examination of Charlie revealed he was flea-ridden and extremely emaciated.

The veterinarian stated Charlie’s injuries were consistent with being kept on a rope outside for an extended period of time with no care.

Animal Cruelty Detectives established probable cause to arrest CALLAHAN and charge him with aggravated animal cruelty with a court appearance set for November 9, 2020.
