Putnam police are investigating the abandonment of two adult dogs and four puppies - Voice For Us

- Indiana, USA -

In the early morning of Thursday, September 3, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office received a report about several dogs laying in the middle of the road.

Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Gibbons responded to County Roads 200 North and 25 East.

That's a rural area outside Greencastle, not far from U.S. 231, about 50-miles west of Indianapolis.

He found two adult dogs and four puppies.

Gibbons then called his wife Erin Gibbons who is program coordinator for the Putnam County Humane Society.

Ms. Gibbons responded to the scene as well.

The Humane Society wrote in a Facebook post: “She arrived to find six very thirsty, very tired, and very neglected animals. Erin looked them over, assessed for injuries, gave them water, lots of love and calming words, and stayed with them until Animal Control Officer Rodney Cline arrived. All six were transported to the shelter where they received care, food/water, and a safe place to sleep. Our Vet Tech Lauren will make sure they’re all given proper medication and wound care. It takes a village.”

The following day, the shelter wrote an update on their Facebook post that reads:

All dogs are doing well and enjoying some much needed rest, medical attention, head scratches and belly rubs.

Both adults are unfortunately heartworm positive and have severe flea attributed dermatitis. With continued care they’ll both be okay.

The puppies’ wounds are caused by mange and with treatment and some good grooming all four will recover fully. We bathed them all today and you can tell they’re feeling a little better already.”

While police are investigating this cruel abandonment, the Sheriff’s Office says there are ways to help toward this situation depending on what you can afford.

You can either donate by visiting the shelter’s website, you can check their Amazon wishlist, or you can give them a call if you are interested in adopting a furbaby.
