On Thursday evening, September 19, a lady and her daughter luckily spotted a mother dog in Mountville near Field of Screams giving birth on the side of the road.
The mother dog had already delivered four puppies.
The Good Samaritans and officer McKernan of the West Hempfield Township Police Department quickly transported mom and babies to the Pet Pantry of Lancaster County shelter.
On the way there, another puppy was birthed in the police vehicle.
Once at the shelter, four more puppies were delivered.
The nonprofit posted on their Facebook page that one was born stillborn and another passed away overnight.
According to the shelter, the mother dog was wearing a collar but no tags and no microchip.
She was a little thin and flea infested.
The shelter is also letting everyone know that no adoption applications will be taken at this time.
