MICHAEL PATRICK TURLAND arrested after dead animals found in a freezer - some of them frozen alive

On April 3, deputies with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office were called to a residence in the 3400 block of N. Kaba Road in reference to an animal welfare check.
The sheriff’s office said that the “reporting party advised that multiple dead animals had been located inside a freezer in the garage and she believed some of them had belonged to her.”
She then explained to deputies that she resides in Phoenix and agreed with 43-years-old MICHAEL PATRICK TURLAND (pictured) that he would take possession of her snakes, breed them, and then give them back to her.
When the woman tried to get her snakes back a few months later, she was not able to reach TURLAND.
Furthermore, the woman received a call from the property owner who told her that TURLAND and his fiancée, BROOKLYN BECK (also pictured), had moved out of state and when they were cleaning the property, they found the freezer full of dead animals in the garage.
Deputies and Animal Control Officers entered the property and found the freezer with the deceased animals inside.
According to a news release, there were “approximately 183 frozen animals of different breeds”, including birds, dogs, lizards, mice, rabbits, rats, snakes, and turtles.
“Several of the animals appeared to have been frozen alive due to their body positioning”, stated the release.
A first attempt to reach TURLAND by phone was not successful.
Deputies then received a tip that TURLAND was at the residence in question so along with animal control they went to the home and arrested him.
The sheriff’s office said that when TURLAND was questioned, he “eventually admitted to placing some of the animals in the freezer when they were still alive.”
TURLAND, of Golden Valley, was booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility in Kingman on 94 counts of felony animal cruelty.
The sheriff’s office advised that deputies are also looking to make contact with his fiancée for questioning in regards to this incident. This investigation is ongoing.
