MICHAEL GLENN SHOOK and MINDY ANNE SUDDERTH SHOOK arrested in connection with the death of a dog

On January 27, former Avery County Sheriff’s Deputy 43-years-old MICHAEL GLENN SHOOK and 44-years-old MINDY ANNE SUDDERTH SHOOK (both pictured below) were charged with felony cruelty to animals, according to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
The Avery Journal Times reports that the magistrate found probable cause that the SHOOKS “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously did cause the death of ‘Spencer’, a dog, by intentionally and maliciously disfiguring and withholding necessary sustenance.”
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation told The Avery Journal Times in an email that “On Jan. 24, 2022, the SBI was requested by the District Attorney and the Avery County Sheriff to investigate allegations of animal cruelty. After consulting with the DA, the two individuals were charged with felony cruelty to animals.”
The couple, of Newland, were assigned secured bonds of $15,000 each, according to Tracey Buchanan with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office.
The SHOOKS are scheduled to appear at the Avery County Courthouse in the morning of February 9, 2022.

I heard back from the agency but the email did not contain the specific information I needed about Spencer. I will contact the sheriff’s office and if I get a satisfactory response, I will post an update.
