MAURICE MARTIN starved his dog to death and feces was found in the furbaby’s mouth

On February 27, Omaha police arrested 39-years-old MAURICE MARTIN (pictured below).

The affidavit accused MARTIN of “intentionally, knowingly or recklessly” abandoning or cruelly neglecting his dog Tank.

Sadly, Tank died.

KETV reports that according to an affidavit, on January 4, 2022, MARTIN called the Nebraska Humane Society to report a dead dog in front of his home near North 44th Avenue and Fort Street. MARTIN stated that he had moved the dog from the street to a trash can.

Responding animal control officers found Tank who was emaciated and noticed that the furbaby was covered in sores and feces.

Tank was taken to the Nebraska Humane Society for further examination which revealed multiple wounds on his legs and hip bones. Both of Tank’s eyes were sunken in and feces was also found in his mouth “as if he had been eating it”, stated the affidavit.

But it does not end here!

Tank had pale lips and gums, open sores inside his ears, discolored pads on his feet and a wound on the bottom third of his tail that “terminated in exposed bone.”

A necropsy was also performed on the VOICELESS VICTIM and results showed several pressure sores, frostbite, lack of muscle mass and fat stores.

As reported by KETV, Tank’s right femur was removed and sent to Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory for bone marrow fat analysis to “show the level of emaciation.”

When the results from the necropsy and all the other tests came in, investigators finally had a conclusive scenario. Starvation was Tank’s cause of death and the manner of death was neglect. The necropsy report stated: “Starvation of Tank occurred over weeks not days.

Contributing factors included hypothermia, frostbite and anemia secondary to gastric ulceration and malnutrition.”

The report goes on to say: “Tank had lack of adequate internal and external body fat including the very last place the body draws fat — the bone marrow. Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory's bone marrow fat analysis found 2.7% fat in the dog's bone marrow, while MSU reports that an average of 56.4% fat is expected for a dog.”

Meanwhile, an investigation revealed that Tank was MARTIN’s dog so MARTIN lied about finding him dead in front of his residence.

MARTIN is now facing charges of animal neglect/abandonment with serious injury, a class four Felony.

A petition has been created addressed to Douglas County Attorney Donald W. Kleine asking for a prison sentence for MARTIN.
