The Henry County Sheriff's Office arrested 64-year-old MARTY LEE EIS (pictured), and eighty-one (81) Dobermans were rescued from a home on 2921 Township Road T3 in Washington Township.
Multiple neighbors told Matt Mergen, a reporter for 13 Action News, that this arrest and the rescue of the dogs was long overdue. According to the neighbors, for more than twenty years they have been complaining about EIS and his treatment toward the dogs.
Residents interviewed by Matt Mergen stated they saw EIS hit, throw, kick the dogs and lift them above his shoulders before throwing them in the house. Neighbors further stated that EIS was also verbally abusive toward the defenseless souls.
According to the press release by the sheriff’s office provided to Voice For Us, on June 6, 2025, the Henry County Dog Warden and sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at EIS’ home.
According to the sheriff's office, the dogs were found living in squalor and were in poor health. The smell of urine and feces extended throughout the home which appeared to have been converted into a “makeshift kennel”.
Officials found wire crates stacked in rooms and said the crates were covered in soiled wood chip. The sheriff's office described the living conditions of the dogs to be unsanitary and dangerous.
Sadly, officials also discovered six deceased puppies.
EIS was arrested and charged with cruelty to companion animals, a fifth-degree felony. The investigation remains active and additional charges are pending.
I ran EIS’ name on Napoleon Municipal Court and records show dozens of criminal complaints against him related to dogs going back to the '90s.
The dogs rescued from the hellish place are being cared for by the Henry County Ohio Humane Society. Part of a Facebook post published by the nonprofit read: “We have had a tough week here at HCHS as we have taken on one of the toughest humane cases our county has seen. We had to pull 81 Dobermans from a home. These dogs were found in poor health, and managing such a large influx has strained the shelter's resources, both physically and financially. We are thankful to have the support of a lot of surrounding shelters, rescues, our county warden, along with staff from Napoleon veterinary clinic and Animal Clinic of Paulding. As a small rural shelter that is not county or government funded taking on cases like this are extremely hard on our shelter and staff. We are only equipped to house 10 to 15 dogs with us already pushing past capacity before we took in this case.“
The nonprofit also said that all of the furvictims have been placed in surrounding shelters.
