59-year-old JERRY L. HARDY was arrested Friday, September 13, and charged with seven felony counts of animal cruelty. He is being held in Portage County Jail.

Original story: A mother cat and her eight kittens were callously put in a cat carrier, it was

screwed shut, put it in a trash bag, finally the bag was tied and thrown out.

A resident who heard crying coming from the bag alerted the Sheriff’s department and the Sheriff contacted the Portage Animal Protective League.

All the furbabies, a mom, three males and four females, are now in their care. The nonprofit wrote on their Facebook page: “These poor babies are in terrible shape. One kitten was already dead.

The other 7 are about half the weight they should be for their age, covered in fleas, have worms, are emaciated and dirty.”

They added: “Our staff worked quickly to rid them of the fleas who were feeding on them, to clean them up, give them food and medicine and a chance to live.”
