MALYRA MONIQUE JONES arrested in connection with an incident involving a malnourished dog

- Illinois, USA -

The Peoria Police Department arrested 30-year-old MALYRA MONIQUE JONES (pictured).

JONES’ arrest is the result of an incident that happened in June 2024, when officers saw a Pitbull in a truck at the Lexington Hills Apartments.

The furvictim appeared to be underfed and was weak.

An investigation led to JONES' apartment where the only thing present was a couch. A warrant was then issued for JONES’ arrest.

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Peoria Police officers encountered JONES on Monroe and Evans Streets. When she was questioned about the dog, she said she was watching him/her for a neighbor. JONES denied being the Pitbull’s guardian as she’s scared of dogs.

Officers placed JONES under arrest and booked her into the Peoria County Jail. At the time of writing, records show she’s still in custody at no bond.

JONES is facing charges of animal cruelty and obstructing justice.

I reached out to the Peoria Police Department to inquire about the furvictim. If I get a response, I will post an update.
