LUIS ALBERTO PEREZ caught on camera beating his dog with a baseball bat charged with a Misdemeanor

- Connecticut, USA -

Back on July 18, 2021, a Ring home security camera caught 35-years-old LUIS ALBERTO PEREZ (pictured) viciously beating his dog with a baseball bat.

FOX61 reports that the incident happened outside PEREZ’s apartment on Jackson Street, Willimantic.

In the video PEREZ can be seen grabbing a baseball bat from the back of his car and swinging at his 1-year-old Rottweiler named Grizzly, chasing the furbaby until he cowers and is cornered by a line of bushes. PEREZ then raised his bat and proceeded to strike Grizzly four times.

Due to its graphic nature, FOX61 chose to not publish the footage in its entirety.

FOX61 reports that when police questioned PEREZ about the incident, he said Grizzly broke his television.

PEREZ faced a judge on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. He is charged with cruelty to animals and breach of peace, both Misdemeanors, and as reported by FOX61, “he was able to walk out of court without handcuffs, a free man.”

According to FOX61 “animal advocates who sat in on the proceeding were outraged at the outcome.”

Ms. Jennifer Murray who was PEREZ’s landlord at the time, told reporter Matt Caron: “When you see that video and you realize that Perez was charged with a misdemeanor is outrageous to me.”

Ms. Murray tried to get PEREZ evicted but said the state’s COVID moratorium on evictions left her powerless.

Ms. Murray provided FOX61 with pictures showing the filthy conditions Grizzly was living in.

It was devastating. Not only did he abuse and neglect the dog and didn’t take the dog to the bathroom but he didn’t pay rent for six months and the apartment was trash”, she said.

When animal control went to PEREZ’s apartment, they found Grizzly in a caged area, “growling and fearful”. Animal control reported an “overwhelming odor of urine and feces”, according to FOX61.

On Tuesday, PEREZ signed Grizzly over to the state.

While some sources report that Grizzly survived the attack and is doing well, FOX61 reports: “If Grizzly cannot be rehabilitated and rehomed, he may have to be euthanized.”

I have emailed Windham Animal Control and requested additional information about Grizzly.

Windham Animal Control kindly responded to my email and I learned that Grizzly does not need to be rehabilitated and that he is a “goofy love.”

As for the Misdemeanor animal cruelty charge that PEREZ is facing, Desmond’s Army Animal Law Advocates said in a Facebook post: “We are looking to put pressure on the state to raise this charge to a felony! Please send an email respectfully requesting the charge be increased to a felony due to this act being [torturous].”

Reporter Matt Caron said that PEREZ left the courthouse before he had a chance to try and speak with him but he will be back in court on May 10, 2022.

Let’s get to work and make sure that PEREZ will spend time behind bars!

Whilst not appearing at all remorseful defiantly standing with crossed arms, this monster is charged only with two misdemeanors! No wonder he’s proudly defiant! These charges must be upgraded to felonies! This cowardly piece of human feces will abuse again, & not stop at beating a defenseless dog but most possibly murder, & upscale to humans when beating dogs becomes boring. Please let Grizzly come out of shock to prove he is a gentle boy.
