LI BINGHUI, caretaker at the old Friar Tuck Inn and Resort, facing animal cruelty charges

- New York, USA -

An employee of the long-shuttered Friar Tuck Inn and Resort on state Route 32 in Kiskatom is facing animal cruelty charges after a wounded donkey, one horse, and one mini horse were removed by New York State Police with the assistance of Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA.

In a Facebook post the agency said: “All three equines were underweight and dehydrated. The donkey, named Donny, had two lacerations, one to his neck, and one to his ‘coronary band,’ or top of his hoof.  All three equines are expected to make a full recovery.”

According to Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA, all three Voiceless Victims are currently being fostered and rehabilitated at Oats’ Country Acres, owned and operated by Camille McDonald.

Daily Freeman reports that state Trooper Steven Nevel told the news outlet in an email that although the resort is officially closed, they are housing animals at the facility.

According to Daily Freeman, Trooper Steven Nevel also said: “Farm animals were discovered without enough feed and in somewhat deplorable conditions. No animals were physically abused nor did they appear to be malnourished.” These animals included “a variety of goats,” chickens, a peacock, a turkey, and a donkey.

Police identified the employee as 57-years-old LI BINGHUI, of Elmhurst. He was arrested at Catskill on the morning of Monday, December 4, 2023, and charged with five misdemeanor counts of torturing or injuring animals/failure to provide sustenance. BINGHUI was released with tickets for Catskill Town Court.

The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA is asking the public for donations to help with the cost of the rehabilitation and veterinary charges involving this seizure. If you wish and can afford to help  out, please click here. Thank you!
