Horry County police cited 36-year-old LATOSHA SMITH with intentional abuse and torture.
On Wednesday, December 16, police received a call for a welfare check on a dog and responded to SMITH’s house to investigate.
Responding officers found a dog who was chained to a wheelchair ramp.
The furbaby was wearing a collar so tight that it cut into her neck.
The poor dog did not even have a shelter and smelled like she had an infection.
News 13 reports that “The collar was adjustable, but had been tied into a knot to make it smaller to fit the dog.”
When police questioned SMITH, she said she had found the dog a month earlier and brought her home.
Police told SMITH that the dog had outgrown the collar and needed medical attention.
Since SMITH allowed police to take the dog, the furbaby was taken to the Horry County Animal Care Center to be examined.
Veterinarians removed the damn collar that was embedded into multiple places in the neck.
Thankfully, the poor soul is expected to make a full recovery.
Police went back to SMITH’s house to issue the citation.
SMITH, of Loris, is expected to appear in court on January 4, 2021.
Many thanks to whoever alerted the authorities.
