KENYON TREMAINE GATES let his Pitbull and her ten newborn puppies die

- Texas, USA -

The senseless death of a mama dog and her ten newborn puppies led to the arrest of 33-years-old KENYON TREMAINE GATES (pictured below).

On June 12, 2021, GATES contacted Wichita Falls Animal Control asking to pick up and dispose of his dying dog, a female Pitbull named Medusa.

An officer went to GATES’ home on Lucas Avenue in Wichita Falls and found Medusa lying on the ground covered in flies. Medusa also had maggots around her hindquarters.

The furbaby was extremely malnourished, with visible bones and a sunken abdomen, reports News Channel 6.

GATES told the animal control officer that Medusa had given birth to a litter of ten puppies two days prior and they all had died.

The officer asked GATES whether he had sought veterinary care for Medusa and at that point GATES became confrontational. He then told the officer to just do his job and take the dog.

Medusa’s breath became increasingly shallow, she started gasping so the officer took her to the Wichita Falls Animal Shelter.

Medusa passed away in the officer’s arms before she could be placed on the examination table.

According to News Channel 6, the officer reported that GATES had a “cavalier attitude towards the entire situation and apparent lack of empathy for the condition he allowed this animal to remain in.”

The officer also warned that any other animal in GATES’s care could be in danger.

As reported by Texomas, the officer believed that GATES failed to provide adequate care for his dog, leading to her suffering for several days and that the entire litter died within two days of birth.

GATES was arrested on Wednesday, October 27, and charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals by failing to provide care, abandonment, or causing bodily injury.

GATES was booked at the Wichita County Jail where bond was set at $8,000.

Online records show GATES was released on October 28, after posting bond.

Online records also show that GATES had sixteen prior arrests for various crimes.
