Calvert County State’s Attorney Robert Harvey announced that 58-years-old KENNETH DAVID BONOLIS (pictured) was sentenced on January 25, 2022, for the crime of animal cruelty.
BONOLIS, of St. Leonard, was sentenced to 14 days incarceration to be followed by a period of home detention.
The sentence followed a jury trial held before the Honorable Mark S. Chandlee of the Calvert County Circuit Court during which time the State put forth evidence that BONOLIS had repeatedly struck his dog outside of the Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter.
The incident happened in 2019, when an employee of the shelter saw BONOLIS beating his dog in the parking lot.
With the assistance of Calvert County Animal Control and the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, the dog was promptly rescued.
On September 15, 2021, BONOLIS was convicted by a jury of animal abuse and faced a maximum penalty of 90 days incarceration.
I have emailed Assistant State’s Attorney Christopher J. Monte who prosecuted the case and inquired about the wellbeing of the VOICELESS VICTIM.
Assistant State’s Attorney Monte tells me that the furbaby, a 2-year-old, male, black and tan, German Shepard named Sparkle, is happy and healthy.
He also told me that “Sparkle was adopted by an individual who had previously adopted Sparkle’s litter-mate (sister).”
