KAY ANN CELEK and daughter MARISSA CELEK arrested for aggravated animal cruelty

- Florida, USA -

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has made two arrests in an aggravated animal cruelty case.

Deputies have arrested 57-year-old KAY ANN CELEK and her daughter, 17-year-old MARISSA CELEK (both pictured below).

On Sunday, May 16, 2021, the sheriff’s office responded to the Animal ER off NE Pine Island Road in Cape Coral in reference to a dog who was brought in for seizures and vomiting.

The furbaby was also extremely emaciated and malnourished.

The dog was a 1-year-old Catahoula named Bailey and, due to the severity of her condition, she had to be medically euthanized, said the sheriff’s office.

According to NBC2, when the vet asked mother and daughter about other dogs in the home, they said there were no other dogs.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Animal Cruelty Task Force and detectives with North District Criminal Investigations Division assumed the investigation.

They made contact with the two females, and NBC2 reports that deputies also talked to another daughter, 21-year-old KATRYNA CELEK.

It emerged that Bailey had been suffering for two weeks and she had a littermate who died the day before from the same condition.

The sheriff’s office said that detectives executed a search warrant for the residence on 1020 NE 34th Terrace in Cape Coral, as well as the empty lot next door, because that is where the other dog was supposedly buried.

The search in the empty lot led to the discovery of a dead dog whom DAS reported to have been found in a shallow grave wrapped in a towel and stuffed in a box.

Inside the property, officials located two dogs: Lucy, who appeared to be in good health, and Ebenezer, who was severely underweight.

Lucy and Ebenezer were both removed by Lee County Domestic Animal Services.

Detectives arrested the mother and her daughter because Bailey’s microchip was registered to her name.

The two females were transported to the Lee County Jail.

Online records show that the mother was released and is scheduled to be arraigned on the morning of June 14.

Records on the daughter were not available online.
