On the evening of Thursday, September 3, the Merced Police Department received a report of possible animal abuse.
Officers responded to a home in the 100 block of Manzanita Drive in Merced.
The Department wrote in a Facebook post that when officers arrived at the home, they located 30-year-old JESUS SANCHEZ PONSECA (pictured below), inside, with a deceased dog.
They later learned that PONSECA’s sister was the guardian of the deceased furbaby.
According to the Department, PONSECA told officers “he was upset at the dog and had kicked it once which caused the dog to die.”
After conducting an investigation, it was determined that this sick monster had beaten the poor dog to death with objects in the residence.
The murderer was arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail for animal cruelty causing the death of the animal.
The Department also wrote: “Because animal cruelty is a zero-bail crime, officers contacted the on-call judge with whom they requested and were granted a bail increase on Ponseca.”
Merced Police are asking anyone with any information regarding this crime to contact Officer Zazueta at 209-388-7739 or by email . Thank you!
