- Florida, USA -
On Monday evening, December 30, a security employee at the Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, called police after seeing a dog and a cat in a vehicle.
When Pinellas County Animal Control officers arrived, they found a 2-year-old mixed breed dog named Biscuit dead inside the vehicle and a cat, named Booker, who was severely dehydrated.
Police located their ‘owner’, 38-year-old JEFFREY HAZEN (pictured below).
Reportedly, he told officers that he works at the hospital and had gone straight to work after he had been driving from Georgia to Clearwater.
He went to Georgia to pick up the furbabies he shared with his late husband.
He admitted to leaving them in the car.
News outlets report that “Police say Hazen told them he had left the vehicle running when he began his shift around 2:30pm, but found the car off and his dog, Biscuit, dead when he checked on the animals around 7:30pm. Police say Hazen went back to work after discovering his dog had died and did not report the death to police or animal control.”
Temperatures were in the middle and upper 70s on Monday with high humidity.
The accused was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty.
He was taken to the Pinellas County Jail and remained Tuesday in lieu of $5,000 bail.
Many thanks to the security guard who called the police.
Booker is doing well and I hope he will be taken away from HAZEN.
