JAVIER DIAZ, vet and owner of an animal hospital in Elmsford caught on camera abusing animals

- New York, USA -

On Saturday, April 30, the SPCA Westchester’s Humane Law Enforcement Unit arrested 46-years-old JAVIER DIAZ (pictured).

DIAZ is a veterinarian and the owner of Main Street Animal Hospital at 33 E. Main Street in Elmsford.

DIAZ is accused of abusing and aggressively handling animals.

An investigation was launched after current and former employees reported the abuse.

The SPCA Westchester said that during a two-week joint investigation with the Elmsford Police Department, the organization obtained videos showing DIAZ punching and kicking multiple animals while their guardians were waiting in the lobby.

In a news release the SPCA Westchester said that DIAZ “physically abused pets that were brought into the Main Street Animal Hospital on six occasions.”

The organization listed the distressing and gut-wrenching incidents:

· While DIAZ was treating a three-legged senior German shepherd for an ear infection, he kicked the furbaby in the chest and then twisted and pulled the dog’s ear so hard that the dog screamed incessantly.”

DIAZ then proceeded to kick the dog a second time in his/her jaw causing the furbaby to jerk his/her head backwards striking a veterinary assistant that was holding the dog in place.

The veterinary assistant suffered a bloody nose and suffered unjustifiable physical pain to her head and neck” stated the release.

· In a separate incident, the 2-month-old kitten pictured below, was hit on his/her tiny head with a nail clipper designed to cut dog’s nails.

The nail clipper was then jammed into the kitten’s small mouth causing him/her "to suffer unjustifiably and to sustain a laceration" to his/her gum and palate.

· A Shiba Inu was punched in the ribs.

· A Labrador Retriever had his front paw twisted and a nail clipper jabbed in his ribs causing the dog to cry out in pain. The dog was then kicked in the ribs.

· A Chihuahua was in a crate crying when DIAZ punched the dog to make him/her stop crying.

· A Shih Tzu was choked causing the dog to almost lose consciousness which caused the dog "to suffer unjustifiable pain and suffering."

DIAZ is charged with six counts of animal cruelty, assault 3rd degree and forgery 2nd degree.

Yonkers Times reports that the forgery charge stems from DIAZ giving a furparent a certificate of rabies vaccination between April 09, 2022 and April 27, 2022 and charging for the vaccine without actually administering a shot.

DIAZ was released without bail.

News 12 checked the state Education Department, which licenses vets, and could not find his name listed as active.

Authorities believe DIAZ may be connected to more cases of animal abuse and the SPCA Westchester urges any furparent who suspect that their furbaby was harmed in DIAZ’s care to please call the SPCA’s 24-hour animal cruelty hotline at (914) - 941 - 7797.

Thank you!
