JASON MATTHEW BUNNELL arrested – One dog found dead and one found injured in a Geneva apartment

- New York, USA -

The Geneva Police Department announced the arrest of 52-year-old JASON MATTHEW BUNNELL (pictured).

On the early morning of Monday, December 29, 2025, officers were called to South Main Street where they found BUNNELL bleeding and acting erratically in the roadway.

According to the department’s press release, during the investigation neighbors indicated BUNNELL’s residence to the officers and reported hearing loud “popping” noises coming from inside.

Officers discovered a broken exterior window and upon conducting a safety search of BUNNELL’s apartment, they found a deceased male Golden Doodle laying on the kitchen floor. Police said the dog had what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

The Ontario County Humane Society said in a press release that they investigated the incident and the deceased dog, named Winston, will be transported to the Cornell Animal Diagnostic Center for a necropsy to confirm the cause of his death.

The agency further reported that officials also found another Golden Doodle, named Beau, who was removed from the apartment. Beau appeared to be injured.

According to the Ontario County Humane Society, BUNNELL was watching the dogs for his father who is recovering from surgery.

At BUNNELL’s apartment, officers additionally found multiple shell casings, a firearm, and observed several bullet holes in the apartment floor.

The department’s Detective Bureau later obtained a search warrant that led to the discovery and recovery of handguns and long guns.

BUNNELL was placed under arrest and charged with animal cruelty, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and reckless endangerment in the first degree.

At the time of writing, records show BUNNELL is being held into the Ontario County Jail.
