JARED MATTHEW POTTS arrested after horses and a mule were found emaciated – 1 mare euthanized

- Washington, USA -

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 33-years-old JARED MATTHEW POTTS.

In a news release the sheriff’s office said that on April 27, it received a report of neglected horses at a property in the 700 block of South Longmeier Road.

Adams County Sheriff Dale Wagner said that there also had been complaints about trash around the property.

Deputies who responded to investigate, discovered two horses and a mule who were emaciated.

A search warrant to seize the animals was immediately applied for and granted.

On April 30, deputies with the assistance of Adams County Pet Rescue executed the search warrant and removed from the property 1 cat, 2 dogs, an unspecified number of horses, and 1 mule.

POTTS was not present at the time.

The poor souls were evaluated by veterinarians at the Sagehills Veterinary Clinic in Othello.

Columbia Basin Herald reports that sadly, one mare had to be euthanized, while the donkey and one of the two dogs are still receiving treatment.

Ms. Kyya Grant, Adams County Pet Rescue director, said about the mare: “She couldn’t get up without help. She just wasn’t strong enough.”

According to Columbia Basin Herald, staff at Adams County Pet Rescue “tracked the brand on the horse”, a mustang , and “discovered she had been adopted in Nevada in 1998.”

On Sunday, May 1, deputies contacted POTTS regarding the condition of the animals and placed him under arrest.

POTTS, of Lind, was booked into the Adams County Jail on suspicion of three counts of first-degree animal cruelty.

The Adams County Pet Rescue is asking for donations to help with cost of the feed, care and medical attention of the rescued animals placed in their care.
