The Knoxville Police Department announced that through continued investigation by the Animal Control Unit, the guardian of the dog who was found abandoned on Jenkins Road has been identified and charged with animal cruelty.
Police said in a news release that the furbaby, a Terrier or a Poodle mix, was found in the morning of Saturday, March 5, in a cloth dog carrier behind a dumpster at an apartment complex in the 4900 block of Jenkins Road.
Police said that when the furbaby was found, she was alive but showed signs of serious neglect and had numerous areas of her body that were severely infected.
The VOICELESS VICTIM was transported to the Young-Williams Animal Center to be examined and treated. Staff named her Bridget.
On March 14, Young Williams Animal Center wrote in a Facebook post that Bridget: “has been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer. Several options for treatment are being explored in order to give Bridget the best chance at recovery and as many happy days as can be achieved going forward. The team at Young-Williams Animal Center is working with a veterinary oncologist to help diagnose Bridget’s specific medical needs and treatment plans.”
Sadly, on March 16, both Knoxville Police and Young-Williams Animal Center posted a devasting update on social media.
“Despite the two-week effort by a team of veterinarians, specialists and staff to save her life, Bridget’s health took a turn for the worse Tuesday, and she succumbed to her illness.”
Bridget lost her precious life on March 15.
Ms. Janet Testerman, CEO of Young-Williams Animal Shelter said: “We’re deeply saddened to announce that Bridget has crossed the rainbow bridge. We hope you will find comfort, as we do, in knowing that during her time here Bridget knew she was cared for and loved. Her tail wagged often, and we gave her all of the affection we could in such a short time.”
The heartless, soulless, and evil individual accused of abandoning Bridget has been identified as 36-years-old JAMIE WILL.
Police said WILL was charged with animal cruelty and Animal Control also confiscated two dogs and a cat who were in her care for their protection.
