On Saturday evening, December 14, troopers were dispatched to an animal cruelty and domestic violence complaint at a property on Russell Street in Bear Lake.
Reportedly, 39-year-old JACKSON CHARLES MACKEY (pictured below), went back home, his girlfriend was there, he went right into the bedroom and stabbed their dog.
When he came out of the room, she confronted him and asked him to leave, that’s when he assaulted her. She was not injured.
Then, MACKEY took the injured dog and drove off in his van.
The criminal was eventually stopped by troopers on Pleasanton Highway.
When his van was searched, troopers found the furbaby in the front passenger seat bleeding from a chest wound, they also found methamphetamine.
MACKEY was taken into custody.
The pup was taken to Bay Area Pet Hospital to be treated and thankfully is expected to make a full recovery.
The offender was arraigned in the 85th District Court in Manistee County and is facing the following charges:
•One count animal cruelty, a felony punishable by four years and/or $5,000.
•One count possession of methamphetamine, a felony punishable by 10 years and/or $15,000.
•One count domestic violence, a misdemeanor punishable by 93 days and/or $500.
•One count operate without security/insurance, a misdemeanor punishable by one year and $200 to $500.
•One count unlawful use of registration plate, a misdemeanor punishable by 90 days and $100.
•One count operating under the influence of drugs; a misdemeanor punishable by 93 days and a fine of $500.
•One count driving while license suspended, a misdemeanor punishable by 93 days and $500.
