JACK RICHARD CHAFIN arrested in connection with the senseless death of three newborn kittens

On April 10, 2022, Dothan Police Officers were dispatched to the 400 Block of Westgate Parkway to an animal cruelty complaint.
Police said in a press release that upon arrival, officers discovered a trash can filled with water and inside was a container with three dead kittens inside.
From an investigation it emerged that the furbabies were intentionally placed into the water and at the time of the incident they were only 1 day old.
Police identified 67-years-old JACK RICHARD CHAFIN (pictured) as the kitties’ guardian.
His “intentional actions were his own way of euthanizing the kittens because he did not want them”, stated the release.
CHAFIN, of Dothan, was charged with three counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.
His bond was set at $15,000.
I have emailed Dothan Police Chief William Benny and requested additional information on the case. I will post an update if I get a response.
Police encourage anyone who decides they no longer want their furbabies or may be struggling to provide adequate care for them and decide they can no longer do so, to seek assistance.
Killing and/or abandoning unwanted furbabies is NEVER an option, under ANY circumstances!!!
