Investigation underway after a dog was found injured and tied to a telephone pole

- Alabama, USA -

The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office is reaching out to the public in hopes of getting information related to an animal cruelty investigation.

On the night of Wednesday, October 6, deputies found an injured dog tied to a pole near a bridge in Waterloo. The furbaby was severely injured and as the picture shows, he had bloody wounds on his legs.

Ms. Cheryl Jones, Director of Florence-Lauderdale Animal Services, told WHNT that the dog had exposed muscle on his torso and exposed bone on his legs.

She has named the furbaby Frank, after Frankenstein, to mark the Halloween season.

Ms. Jones explained: “He was found bloody, tied to the pole. Whatever had happened, had just happened. The deputies originally thought he might have been dragged because he had a tether on, but looking at his injuries, the best I can figure is tossed out of a moving vehicle.”

According to Ms. Jones, what happened to Frank was no accident.

Frank was initially taken to an emergency veterinarian. Due to the severity of the injuries Frank sustained, the veterinarian suggested he be put to sleep, but thanks to Ms. Jones that did not happen because she opted for a second opinion. The veterinarian then referred Frank to the Mississippi State University Animal Health Center.

Ms. Jones was right and made the right choice!

Frank is at the Mississippi State University Animal Health Center and is recovering!

While we are overjoyed that Ms. Jones gave Frank’s precious life a second chance, we need to keep in mind that the treatments Frank will need to fully recover are estimated to be $20,000 for the duration of his stay at Mississippi State. He is expected to stay in their care for months.

After that, as Ms. Jones rightfully pointed out, “Eventually, Frank is going to need a foster home and probably a home, and ultimately that’s our goal.”

The Florence-based animal shelter Chloe's Fund for Medical Needs of Florence Shelter Animals said will help with the cost of Frank’s medical care so the organization needs donations.

If you wish and can afford to donate, you can donate to Chloe’s Fund via PayPal.

Alternatively, you can mail checks or deliver them in person to Florence-Lauderdale Animal Services at 3240 Roberson Road in Florence. Cash donations will also be accepted in person. Thank you!
