Is this instant karma or what?
50-year-old SARIPALLI CHANAVENKATESHWARAM RAO was on his way to a cockfight when he was hit in the neck with a blade that was tied to the rooster’s claw.
This happened on January 15, but news outlets have only recently released the news.
The man was taken to a hospital where he died hours later.
RAO was a regular at local cockfights and when the incident happened, he was on his way to enter the poor rooster in a competition.
According to Gauri Maulekhi, trustee for India’s People for Animal Foundation, cockfighting has been illegal in India since 1960. However, animal fighting continues to be a problem in the country.
Shamefully and disgracefully the cockfight went ahead without any arrests.
Mr. Maulekhi said: "I don't think culture has anything to do with it -- it is purely a money game and hysteria takes over, reason and logic just take a back seat such that neither the animal's welfare nor the people's welfare is enough to stop it.”
