HERMELINDA ROCHA accused of starving her horses with one mare having to be euthanized

- Nevada, USA -

On Tuesday, May 10, authorities arrested 45-years-old HERMELINDA ROCHA (pictured), for three felony warrants for willful or malicious torture/maim/kill a dog, cat, or animal.

Online court records show that the offenses were committed on January 1, 2018.

8 News Now reports that according to an arrest report, ROCHA boarded her three horses on Kell Lane, a property in northeast Las Vegas, and is accused of starving them and keeping them in filthy conditions.

The owner of the property told investigators that she only provided the boarding.

ROCHA was responsible for feeding the horses and maintaining the stalls.

An investigation conducted by Animal Control led to the owner of the property being cited on December 7, 2019.

According to the report, “Animal Control observed a large amount of manure and urine accumulating in the horse stalls. A closer look at all three horses’ hooves revealed they were overgrown and in need of care. Each horse stall had a bucket of water. The water buckets contained thick murky water with a buildup of Algae.”

The issues regarding the horses’ well-being were not addressed and on January 16, 2020, the three horses were removed from the property.

The poor animals were taken to Desert Pines Equine Center for veterinarian care. “Each horse was 250 to 300 pounds underweight”, reports 8 News Now.

A mare had been seen eating her own feces, and due to ongoing health issues, she was euthanized four months later.

The owner of the property denied having any responsibility for the horses, and only contacted Animal Control after she was cited. She admitted that she knew ROCHA would neglect to feed the horses and look after the cleanliness of the stalls.

Many unsuccessful attempts were made during the investigation to get in touch with ROCHA.

She was taken into custody in the employee parking lot of Valley Hospital, transported to Clark County Detention Center and booked on her outstanding warrants.

Online court records show that ROCHA was released the following day on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear back in court on August 9, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. for her preliminary hearing.

According to court records, a bail condition is the “Defendant is to have NO CONTACT with any animals. Court orders random animal control inspections.”
