Did you know that the tallest mammal in the world has a black tongue? Giraffes’ tongues contain melanin, the pigment that allows skin to get tanned and that provides extra UV protection. It is believed that since these beautiful mammals feed up high, their tongues are often exposed and the melanin prevents their delicate tongues from getting sunburnt.
