GEORGE PETRIE arrested after he was caught on video abusing a dog at a Hawthorne park

The Hawthorne Police Department arrested 54-year-old GEORGE PETRIE on accusations of abusing his dog.


The despicable incident, which was caught on video, took place at a Hawthorne park and immediately circulated on social media.


Police said they became aware of the video on March 3, 2026, and launched an investigation. The following day, police announced through a Facebook post: “On March 4th, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., officers located the individual believed to be involved and took him into custody without incident.”


Two days later, police posted an updated press release and announced that the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office filed a felony charge of animal cruelty against PETRIE.


Online records show that PETRIE is scheduled to appear in court on March 20, 2026.


Police said that the furvictim, a 3-year-old female Pitbull mix named Purple, was taken to a local veterinarian for evaluation and later placed in the custody of Lovejoy Foundation.
