Albany County Sheriff Craig D. Apple Sr. said in a news release that over the last few weeks complaints were submitted to the office about a horse who appeared malnourished on a property in Rensselaerville.
On September 2, a search warrant was executed on the property and officials found a horse named Ben, who was being kept in unsafe conditions, without food or clean water, and two hundred pounds under weight. Ben was in desperate need of farrier and veterinary care and was taken to a secure location for proper care.
Ben’s guardian, 79-years-old GARY N. PACKARD (pictured below), was arrested and charged with one count of failure to provide proper sustenance/cruelty to animals, a class A misdemeanor.
He was later released on an appearance ticket to appear at the Town of Rensselaerville Court at a later date.
