On Friday, February 11, Bettendorf Police arrested 36-years old GARLAND PAUL CARRELL (pictured below) for murdering an innocent puppy.
KWQC reports that on Friday morning at around 1:05 a.m. a Bettendorf Police officer was driving west on Middle Road and saw CARRELL standing near 29th Street and Middle Road in front of Chateau Knoll Apartments.
CARRELL was standing over a cardboard box lying near the curb and had a flashlight in his hand but when the officer tried to talk to him, CARRELL ran into his apartment.
The officer then looked at the box and found fresh blood, an empty bag of dog treats, and bloody loose treats lying in the grass.
While examining the scene, the officer then discovered a lifeless puppy in a storm drain next to where the box was found and a machete was located in the path CARRELL had run.
The machete was covered with blood.
Although police obtained a search warrant to search for CARRELL’s apartment, he refused to answer the door and did not immediately cooperate with officers.
When officers were eventually inside the apartment, they found blood in other areas of the apartment, including on a camouflage jacket CARRELL was wearing when an officer saw him outside.
Inside the apartment officers also found another machete that matched the same brand as the one located outside.
Online arrest records show the murderer was charged with cruelty to animals, possession of marijuana, and interference with official acts, all MISDEMEANORS!
The murderer is being held at the Scott County Jail on a $2,000 bond.
The murderer is slated to appear in court for his preliminary hearing on February 18, 2022.
I have emailed Bettendorf Police Department Chief Keith Kimball and requested additional information about the VOICELESS VICTIM.
In an email to Voice For Us Chief Kimball explained that the victim was “a 4-5 month old Boxer puppy, unknown name or gender.” Chief Kimball was not able to disclose additional information as the defendant was not being “cooperative”.
