Ms. Latonya “Sassee” Walker is a wonderful woman who for ten years has been feeding, spaying, neutering, and caring for homeless cats across Brooklyn.
In January, one of the furbabies, her beloved Tuxedo, known as the Mayor of the NYCHA Complex, was mauled to death.
Ms. Walker was told by a witness, Raymond Morales, that on January 13, a male and a female came with 2 Pitbulls and set them on the colony.
The witness saw Tuxedo getting away from the Pitbulls and getting on a tree.
Then, according to the witness, the pair put a chair under the tree and with a stick banged Tuxedo down who was eventually mauled to death.
Ms. Walker told NBC New York that she had reported the incident to the authorities several times asking them to take action, but no one was doing anything about it and neighbors were wondering why the pair were not arrested.
The community understandably fears for the other cats.
An extremely emotional and angry Ms. Walker rightfully said: “Now what kind of insanity, what kind of evil, sadistic person would come and do that?”
Eventually, an investigation into the senseless murder of Tuxedo was finally carried out on Monday, February 8, Chief Rodney K. Harrison of The Detectives Bureau in the NYPD, said in a tweet 28-year-old FULTON GORDON was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
NBC New York reports that GORDON was cuffed just before 3:30 p.m. on Stanley Avenue.
NYPD told New York Post that GORDON was charged with torturing, injuring or not feeding an animal, a misdemeanor crime.
He was given a desk appearance ticket and will have an arraignment at a later date,
Ms. Walker said she will continue to care for the homeless cats but has never been the same after Tuxedo’s death.
She said: “This has crushed me; this has killed me. My spirit is gone.”
Voice For Us note: Stray animals constantly struggle to find shelter in extreme weather conditions, they struggle to find food, they are exposed to abuse, traffic hazards, and much more!
You don’t have to love animals, you don’t have to feel sorry for them, but at least do not hurt them!!!
