The dogs were a hunting breed commonly referred to as Walkers or Walker Hounds.

Their remains were taken to the Lynchburg Regional Animal Health Laboratory to determine cause of death.

The 9-month-old pup is expected to make a full recovery.

In connection with this case, authorities arrested 50-year-old FLOYD MCNEIL MAITLAND (pictured below).

He was charged with two felony counts of animal cruelty, but since the investigation is ongoing, additional charges may be brought against him.
