FLOYD MCNEIL MAITLAND charged with felony animal cruelty after 21 dogs were found dead

- Virginia, Dinwiddie County, USA -

The Dinwiddie County Animal Control received an anonymous request to perform an animal welfare check on a property in the 12000 block of Boydton Plank Road.

Following this request, on Friday, February 14, authorities responded to the address and discovered a total of 21 dead dog in kennels.

The dogs were a hunting breed commonly referred to as Walkers or Walker Hounds.

Their remains were taken to the Lynchburg Regional Animal Health Laboratory to determine cause of death.

Only one dog was found alive and was immediately taken to a veterinary clinic.

The 9-month-old pup is expected to make a full recovery.

In connection with this case, authorities arrested 50-year-old FLOYD MCNEIL MAITLAND (pictured below).

He was charged with two felony counts of animal cruelty, but since the investigation is ongoing, additional charges may be brought against him.

6NEWS Richmond reports that: “Back in 2011, Maitland was arrested and faced eight misdemeanor counts concerning the care of animals.

Those charges were set aside by the court.
