On the afternoon of Thursday, March 10, Pass Christian Police received an anonymous tip of a suspicious odor coming from a home on East Second Street.
Police Chief Daren Freeman told WDAM that after officers observed the residence, they returned with a search warrant.
Officers then discovered many animals in “rough condition.” A total of 1 cat and 69 dogs were removed from that hellish place.
Chief Freeman said: “There was feces all over the residence and it appeared that the animals haven’t been outside at all. [It’s] horrific. I’ve been doing this for 30 years and I’ve never seen anything like this. We are thoroughly investigating it and we take all incidents like this very serious.”
According to Chief Freeman it took hours to safely remove all the furbabies who are now being cared for by the Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM).
Pass Christian Police, the Pass Christian Fire Department, the Long Beach Police Department, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, and HSSM all participated in the removal of the VOICELESS VICTIMS.
The Humane Society of South Mississippi said in a Facebook post that “several of the animals they took in were pregnant, and one already gave birth to nine puppies Friday morning.”
In connection with this case, police arrested 56-years-old ETHEL ANN ROSS and her husband 68-years-old RICHARD CHARLES ROSS JR. (both pictured below).
The couple each face 70 counts of cruelty to animals.
They were transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center and online records show they are being held on a $3,500 bond each.
If you wish and can afford to help out HSSM, please visit their website. Thank you!
You can also help by dropping off donations of dog bowls, dog food, towels/rags, and cleaning supplies to help staff care for the influx of animals at the shelter. Thank you!
