ERNEST ALLEN indicted for cruelly and senselessly beating two Canadian Geese to death

- Massachusetts, USA -

On Thursday, September 23, a Norfolk County Grand Jury indicted 55-year-old ERNEST ALLEN, of Randolph, on two counts of animal cruelty charges after he beat two Canadian Geese to death.

ALLEN will now head to Norfolk Superior Court.

On August 2, at his arraignment hearing in Quincy District Court, ALLEN plead not guilty to animal cruelty charges and was released without bail.

A neighbor called Randolph Police to report that they saw ALLEN beating the geese with a stick and an officer was dispatched to ALLEN’s home on 6104 Chestnut West Drive.

The Patriot Ledger reports that the officer “found two geese that looked injured huddled together in a pool of blood in the hallway of the building.”

The Patriot Ledger further reports: “Another neighbor told police she looked through the peephole of her door and also saw Allen beating the geese with a wooden stick and then using cleaning supplies to clean up blood in front of his door.”

When ALLEN was questioned by the police, he said that he used a broom just to “shoo” the geese off his patio.

The neighbors, however, gave a different version of the facts and told police that ALLEN was swinging and hitting the defenseless birds with something thicker than a broom.

In fact, a search warrant led to the discovery of a piece of wood with screws sticking out of both ends with blood on it and police also found blood and feathers on ALLEN’s patio.

The Animal Rescue League of Boston took the geese to the New England Wildlife Center in South Weymouth, a non-profit care-based science education organization.

A few hours ago, the organization posted a news release on Facebook and part of it reads: “Two juvenile geese about 10 weeks old were admitted to our Weymouth hospital brutally beaten and clinging to life. Both suffered severe blood loss and multiple fractures. Dr. Mertz admitted the animals. His veterinary exam of the first goose discovered irreparable fractures to both wings and the goose was humanely euthanized to end his suffering. A wing wrap was put on the second 10 month old goose. This goose sustained a fracture so severe that pieces of bone were sticking out through the tissues of the wing. Though surgical repair was a long shot, our veterinary team had to at least try. The goose was stabilized with fluids and pain meds and transferred to our cape branch for Dr. Patel to perform surgery the next day. Unfortunately, after hours of trying he succumbed to his injuries.”

New England Wildlife Center said that Dr. Patel performed a necropsy in collaboration with Dr. Martha Smith-Blackmore of Forensic Veterinary Investigations, LLC to document the extent of the injuries the poor geese sustained.

ALLEN, who is represented by attorney Ken DiFazio, is scheduled to be back in court on October 13, 2021.

He faces up to only seven years in a state prison.

New England Wildlife Center said: “This is the first case we know of, where justice will be fought for two geese in Massachusetts Superior Court. Every life has value. No creature anywhere should suffer at the hands of human cruelty. Thank you to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office for giving voice to those that cannot speak for themselves.”
