On Tuesday, March 16, police arrested 40-year-old PRENTISS K. MADDEN (pictured below).

According to a press release by the United States Attorney's Office South Florida, federal prosecutors have charged MADDEN with animal crushing and receiving and possessing child pornography.

- Animal crushing is a federal crime that punishes acts of animal torture. -

MADDEN is a licensed veterinarian in Aventura, Florida.

He was the medical director of the Caring Hands Animal Hospital until the hospital learned about the charges and fired him.

According to the press release, the investigation started when law enforcement agents received a cyber tip that an IP address registered to MADDEN’s Miami home repeatedly accessed a cloud-based file-sharing service containing images of child pornography.

A search warrant was then executed at MADDEN’s home as part of the investigation, and agents found a cellular telephone containing chats that discussed the sexual abuse of animals and children.

The phone, alleged to belong to MADDEN, also contained several sexually explicit videos and images of minors.

According to the affidavit, some of the chats contained images that appeared to be of MADDEN engaged in sexual activity with dogs.

In MADDEN’s cloud-based sharing account agents also discovered over 1000 images of animal abuse and child pornography, says the court filing.

As stated by the release, according to the complaint affidavit, the geolocation information of one of the images depicting alleged bestiality links to Caring Hands Animal Hospital.

Caring Hands Animal Hospital released a statement and part of it reads: “We at Caring Hands Animal Hospital are appalled by the nature of the charges against Prentiss Madden. We immediately terminated Mr. Madden two weeks ago upon learning that he was under investigation for these heinous and unthinkable crimes. Our legal team, and every single member of the Caring Hands family will be doing everything in our power to aid law enforcement and facilitate their investigation and prosecution.”

According to CBS Miami, MADDEN is scheduled to be arraigned on March 31, 2021.
