- Marion County, Alabama, USA -
North West Alabamian reports that 57-year-old DONALD GENE NIX shot his neighbor’s dog, a Siberian Husky named Koda.
He then tied a cord around his neck and hung him out of a window of the vehicle he drove down the road in his neighborhood.
Koda was found October 26 by his human dad, Mr. Brandon Mitchell.
NIX was questioned by investigators on October 30.
He told them the dog had gone into his yard so that’s how he justified the killing.
He said to the police: “…they ought to have kept (the dog) out of his yard.”
On October 31, Haleyville Police picked him up at his home on County Highway, 62. NIX was transported to the Haleyville Police Department first and then to the Winston County Jail in Double Springs.
He was charged with cruelty to a dog or cat in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
If convicted, he would face no more than a year in jail and as much as $6,000 in fines.
In Alabama, a person can be charged with a felony if he or she intentionally tortures any dog or cat.
