DOMINIQUE A. SCOTT arrested weeks after she cruelly abandoned a Chihuahua on the side of the road

On March 24, the North Attleboro Police Department announced that in connection with the cruel abandonment of an innocent dog back in February, an arrest has now been made.
Police have arrested 24-years-old DOMINIQUE A. SCOTT (pictured) of Pawtucket.
SCOTT was taking into custody on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 23, after an investigation by Officer Julie Lowe, the North Attleboro police prosecutor.
Police pointed out in a Facebook post that March 23, was also National Puppy Day.
Police said the furbaby had been found on the afternoon of Saturday, February 26, by a woman walking her own dogs.
The vet who at the time examined the dog, a male Chihuahua now named Alex by Animal Control Officer Felicia Camara, said he was approximately 12 weeks old. Alex was dehydrated, suffering from malnutrition and mange, and had not been dewormed.
Alex was heartlessly left on the side of Draper Avenue in North Attleboro in a blue crate but police do not know for how long he was there for.
The Sun Chronicle reports that SCOTT abandoned Alex on the night of February 24, the eve of a snowstorm with no food or water. The woman who found him said there was snow inside and around the soft crate.
Alex was then safely placed in the care of the North Attleboro Animal Shelter and police reached out to the public for information.
According to The Sun Chronicle, Officer Lowe said in her report that during an interview at the police station, SCOTT admitted to abandoning the puppy, who was named Benihana, and was remorseful.
“She stated that Alex was ‘glued to her hip’ and was becoming a nuisance to her. She stated Alex had pooped in his crate and that was her tipping point,” stated the report.
Reportedly, SCOTT said: “They are trying to portray me as an evil person and I am not an evil person. I went back multiple times to try to find my dog.”
Police said they received a tip from a person who knows SCOTT and sent officer photos and videos of Alex.
Furthermore, as part of the investigation, police obtained cellphone records that they say showed SCOTT was in the area on February 24 and February 25.
Attleboro Detective Keith Golden assisted with the examination of SCOTT’s cellphone.
The person who submitted the tip also told police that SCOTT admitted to abandoning the puppy and laughed about him appearing in a Facebook post.
From the investigation it also emerged that SCOTT brought Alex to a veterinarian for a booster shot on February 15. On February 28, she told the vet her puppy had been “rehomed.”
Police said SCOTT was arraigned on March 24, at the Attleboro District Court on the charge of cruelty to animals.
As reported by The Sun Chronicle, SCOTT pleaded innocent to a felony cruelty to animals charge and was generously let free on her own recognizance. Her case was continued to next month for a pretrial conference.
The maximum penalty for cruelty to animals is only 2 ½ years in jail.
The Sun Chronicle reached out to Stephen Dalrymple, SCOTT’s lawyer, but he declined to comment.
According to The Sun Chronicle, SCOTT is a finalist in the Miss Rhode Island USA pageant.
On February 15, nine days before dumping Alex, she created a GoFundMe page to raise money to enter the pageant.
