Dogs seized in Richland County and owner arrested on an animal fighting or baiting charge

- Richland County, South Carolina, USA -

On Friday, January 31, the Richland County Sheriff’s Fugitive Task Force arrested 35-year-old CHASITY KATHERINE HAMMONDS on an animal fighting or baiting charge.

Following a tip about suspicious activity, on January 15, deputies responded to a home in the 500 block of Atterbury Drive.

When they arrived, they found several dogs in the backyard of the residence.

The poor dogs looked malnourished and injured.

One dog in particular who was found in an elevated crate, had extensive bite wounds on his face, muzzle, and scars on the head. The injuries had been left untreated.

HAMMONDS’ time to reclaim the dogs ended on January 21, so they now remain in the shelter’s permanent custody.

HAMMONDS was jailed in Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and then released on a $10,000 bond!!!

The judge barred her from keeping any animals while awaiting court proceedings.

The offender will be back in court some time this month.

If convicted, she could be sentenced to five years in prison.
